Supplies Me! Success

This last Saturday was the annual Etsy Dallas "Supplies Me! Art + Craft Supply Sale." Just shy of a dozen vendors set up tables in the Blue Room at South Side on Lamar and put out their personal stash of art and craft supplies. There was plenty of fabric and crafty doodads to be had. Besides the Etsy Dallas members' tables, there was also a mega-table of donations from ED members (and a few non-members, thanks!). The proceeds from the sales at the ED table are going to Captain Hope's Kids, a non-profit that helps homeless children. We also collected craft supplies to donate directly to the charity.

We had a great time and went a little bow-silly thanks to a stash of giant ribbon bows from Silla of silla soup. Thanks to everyone who was involved and helped us clean our closets while raising money for a worthy cause. In total we raised $200 and many, many boxes of supplies for Captain Hope's Kids.

Personally, I'd like to thank the vendors, volunteers, everyone who donated goods, and the shoppers for supporting us. Thanks to the following: Amanda/Loop and Lil, Amber/Red Tile Studio, Bonnie/bonny beads, Chau/DCimaginations, Cheyne/Cut Out and Collect, Kate/K8 Made, Maggie/maggie may i, Patricia/Karma Crochet, Rosemary/Paper Beats Rock, Silla/silla soup, Stephanie/tefi, Pamela and Dylan/Dowdy Studio, Laura/ChildsPLAYdesign, Erin/Haute Hardware, Alicia/La Alicia, Sabrina and Jenny/The Pig and the Peacock. Bonus thanks to Leanne McIntosh at Gulfstream Aerospace and Lauren Ray from House of Lovely for their item donations.

Until next year!

Supplies Me! Tomorrow!!

Are you ready for the Supplies Me! Art + Craft Supply Sale tomorrow? This is a very short sale, only 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., so you had better plan to get there early. If you haven't been to South Side on Lamar, you'll find it at the corner of Belleview and S. Lamar Street across from a Dallas police station and near the Cedars DART Station. The building is the former home of Sears and features a huge red "South Side on Lamar" sign visible from the freeway.

If you're familiar with South Side on Lamar from the Etsy Dallas Spring Bash, you probably know how to find the Artist's Quarter where that event has been held. From there you would go half-way down the corridor and take the stairs on your left at the bridge up towards the glassed-in Janette Kennedy Gallery. The Blue Room is down the hall on your right just on the other side of the dry cleaners next to the wall of mail boxes. If approaching from the main entrance you would pass the concierge desk, go through the double glass doors then take a sharp turn to your left. Look for the powder blue room with the big dark brown wooden doors.

Don't miss this opportunity to shop art and craft supplies from Dallas' craftiest!

Supplies Me!

Supplies Me! Art + Craft Supply Sale is less than a week away! In addition to offering our crafty supply goodness to the public for sale, this event is a chance for our Etsy Dallas members to collect supplies and raise money for a good cause. Again, this year our charity of choice is Captain Hope's Kids .

"Captain Hope’s Kids has one goal in mind, to help those who cannot help themselves, children. Through the collection of donations, supplies and fundraisers, we intend to give homeless children their best chance at living a normal life." ( From the CHK website.)

Last year we collected over 10 bags of quality art and craft supplies from our members and donated over $200. You can read more about last year's event
here. In response to the news that we were repeating the event this year, Brad Boss, CHK Program Director wrote, "The items donated last year were wonderful and the groups we gave them to loved them! I can't wait to see this year's result."

Let's see what we can do!

Supplies Me!

For the second year in a row Etsy Dallas is presenting a supply sale in the summer. What is a supply sale, you may ask? It's an opportunity for you, the public, to buy the things that we, Etsy Dallas members, use to craft the amazing things that we make. Maybe we have too much of something or decided we no longer want to make that kind of thing anymore--what to do with all of the supplies left cluttering our closets?

Here lies the genius of the supply sale. We clean out our stash of crafty goodness and you get direct access to our supplies. Whether it's excess Japanese fabrics, colorful beads, or papercraft items you're sure to find something to inspire your next project.

Here's just a sampling of what to expect at the sale next Saturday: fabric, patterns, ribbon, craft magazines, beads, jewelry findings, paper mache products, wooden boxes, scrapbooking supplies, rubber stamps, papercraft goods, photo matte boards, buttons, cigar boxes, sewing notions, pillow forms, display and merchandising items, canvases, and yarn.

Who knows what else we'll dig up! Come find out for yourself at Supplies Me! Art + Craft Supply Sale, Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Blue Room, South Side on Lamar, 1409 S. Lamar, Dallas, TX 75215.

Etsy Dallas Craft Party

We hope everyone had a blast at the Etsy Dallas Craft Party on Friday night! Crafters from all across the city came to Oil and Cotton to party down.

The fabulous decorating team from Etsy Dallas decked the halls of Oil and Cotton with paper bunting and pom-poms.

Refreshments and homemade desserts kept the party people's energy up for all of the festivities.

There was a free raffle and everyone had the opportunity to win prizes like a Holga camera, a gift card to Oil and Cotton, embroidery sets and more! The winners got their hands on some good stuff.

The party-goers got to put their crafty chops to the test and make some rockin' leather cuffs.

Etsy Dallas team even made a photo booth wall so everyone could strike a pose and have a memory of the greatest craft party ever (we're still editing the beautiful photos, but we'll let you know when they're online for your free downloading pleasure).

All in all, we had a great time and can't wait to do it next time. Join Etsy Dallas soon for the Supplies Me Sale. Etsy Dallas members will be cleaning out their craft closets for you to shop. So if you're into crafting and want to buy from some talented artists, come on over to the Supplies Me Sale, Saturday, June 25th, 11am-2pm at South Side on Lamar's Blue Room.

Super special thanks to everyone who helped put the Etsy Craft Party on!

Anita Mills for weaving on the loom
June Covington for spinning the night away
D.B. Higgins for demonstrating rope making
Society Bakery for supplying sweet cupcake treats
Tamale Company for rolling in the tamale cart (Yum!)

Big thanks to Oil and Cotton for co-hosting with us!

Member Spotlight: Signifying Not

Magical, creepy, beautiful and mysterious: those are the words that pop into my mind when I look at the amazing work of Signifying Not. Summer's gorgeous illustrations are not only available as prints, but t-shirts, accessories and cool gifts. Read on as Summer Ortiz answers a few of our questions...

ED: How did you get started selling your art?

SO: I had taught myself to screen print and had been making shirts for myself and friends since high school. People had been encouraging me for years to sell the shirts, but I never took their advice until last January when I had a little bit of extra cash and took the plunge into running my own business.

ED: What kind of products do you sell, and what materials do you work with?

SO: Clothing, prints, magnets, plush creatures, really anything we have the time and imagination to create. Work with all kinds of materials, but mainly tees and paper.

ED: What are your future plans for Signifying Not?

SO: We are always expanding and creating new things, but this year I am hoping to have some new tee designs and think of some new ways to display our designs - more prints, bags, etc. We are also looking to expand and sell our wares in more shops around Dallas and possibly elsewhere.

ED: What are you most inspired by?

SO: I am inspired by all things weird/odd/strange - Victorian traditions and fashion, unusual historical figures and events, wunderkammers, fairy tales (original versions), literature, vintage illustrations and prints.

Summer lives in North Deep Ellum with a chihuahua named Oliver, and works as a designer for the Texas Woman's University. You can find her products on Etsy as well as Dolly Python.
